Interior design is always changing. Every time and every place I go, I find a new perspective on what goes into a home or building. In the past, you would expect an interior designer to have a set or a set of standards about how things should be done. The reality is that there is no set standard. Every room in a home should look different with different things in it.
I like this quote from interior designer and editor of Houzz.com, Jill Zandstra, who calls interior design “a collaborative process”. But even when we agree on a style and color palette for a room, there are always different ways to interpret it. Jill explains, “We can’t expect our clients to have exactly what they want.
She also says that designers should never expect clients to have exactly what they want. But in reality, what clients want is a way to make their home look great. What they want is to make your home look wonderful, so if you’re going to do something and you’re going to try to make it look good, if you’re going to give it a try, you have to be willing to give it a try.
Jill also explains the various ways that designers can influence a room, and how design can affect a room before it is even built. A designer can influence a room before it is even built, so much so that their influence is felt before the building is even completed, because the designer wants the room to be a certain way before it is made. But the fact is, you can influence a room only if you want it to be different than it was originally.
The big thing about design is that it is a philosophy. A designer is a designer. Designers are architects. Architects are architects. Architects are engineers. Architects are engineers. Architects are engineers! This is a philosophy of design. A designer can influence a room by saying, “I’m designing a room to be very simple.” If you’re not a designer, you can say, “I’m designing for being very simple.
An example of this philosophy is the color blue. Blue is a very simple color, but it brings with it so much more than just being one color. As a simple color, blue can bring the very best of a room, such as pure white, or the very best of a color, such as the blue of the ocean.
To be a designer, you have to have a strong sense of color. You have to be able to manipulate color to bring out the best of the room. You have to be able to use color to communicate a mood, to express emotion, to have a strong sense of place, to be very precise in your choice of color. The color blue, for example, conveys an energy and a feeling of freedom.
Blue is a very versatile color, and an excellent choice for a designer because it has a very strong emotional connotation. It can be both calm and forceful at the same time. Blue can go with just about any room, and you can add it as a wall color, a decorating element, or even a wallpaper.
The key points of a design are, 1) what is the color, 2) the key words, 3) the overall look, 4) the overall look of the design, and 5) the design and the overall look.
In the beginning of this guide, I will show you how to incorporate the elements of each of the five elements into your own design scheme. But before we start, I wanted to share with you the first and most important thing I learned from my journey, which is the importance of being clear on what you want to achieve in your design. As a designer, it is your job to make the design you choose truly impactful, and to get it right.
